School Green Centre is essentially a parish hall that has been amplified to deliver for the residents of Shinfield, a burgeoning village on the outskirts of Reading. The residents are now benefitting from this new community centre which provides public spaces for local groups, after-school clubs, a café, library, and soon also a cinema.

With housing development surrounding the site, Shinfield Parish Council worked in partnership with Wokingham Borough Council to make use of local development funding to provide an ambitious public building. AOC Architecture’s design has transformed the old parish hall with a playful extension that wonderfully echoes the local vernacular of white render and pitched roofs.
