RIBA North East

RIBA North East

RIBA North East represents 700 Chartered Members and over 80 Chartered Practices in the region. We offer a range of activities to deliver the strategic purpose of the RIBA

RIBA North East acts as a co-ordinating body between chartered architects, allied building professionals and the public in the North East. The overarching aim is the advancement of architecture and the delivery of high standards of design and fitness for purpose within the built environment.

RIBA North East responds effectively to the requirements of local members and the region, providing a vital point of contact between the RIBA and the tiers of regional governance and decision-makers at a local level throughout the north east. By harnessing the knowledge and expertise of those who live and work in the area, RIBA North East is able to promote architecture to a wide audience.

There are four special interest groups that meet on a regular basis in the North East. These are:

  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI):
Led by Regional Council members Lydia Mills from Medical Architecture and Tim Bailey from Xsite Architecture. To advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion issues within the profession and wider construction industry
  • Sustainable Futures Group:
Led by Regional Council member Mark Siddall from LEAP and Adam Vaughan from JDDK Architects. To raise the profile of sustainability in the region, and to advocate for sustainable design.
  • Small Practice Community
Led by Regional Council member James Longfield from Northern Bureau for Architecture. This group supports small practices and sole practioners in the region and helps share knowledge between them through events and activities.
  • Young Architectural Practitioners' Forum (YAPF)
Led by Regional Council member Becky Smith from Xsite Architecture. The YAPF has been developed primarily to promote and support young architectural practitioners during their first ten years of qualification in the North East region.
