Awards RSAW Award 2024, RIBA Client of the Year 2024, and shortlisted for the Stephen Lawrence Prize 2024.
Located in north-west Wales with views of Llanbedrog Bay, the new café at Plas Glyn-y-Weddw Arts Centre is an inventive intervention within a sensitive heritage setting. Designated as Wales’s oldest art gallery, the arts centre is housed in a Grade II* listed mansion house and is a vibrant, multifaceted venue encompassing gallery, museum, performance venue, and event space.
The new café sits adjacent to the gallery, providing a striking marine-inspired contrast to the listed structure. It replaces a previous inadequate offering, with the added brief of expanding seating capacity. It is testament to the client’s vision in not settling on a conventional approach but embracing a more creative mindset by enlisting an artist, architect, and engineer for the project.
