Designed by Gross Max, Lyric Square is a vibrant public space in the heart of Hammersmith.

In 2000 the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham launched an RIBA competition to select an architect/landscape architect by Competitive Interview. The project was for the creation of a new £750,000 public square on a closed section of highway in the centre of Hammersmith, London.

The competition received a great response with over 50 applicants, from which a shortlist of 6 was chosen. Each candidate provided examples of past work and presented a concept sketch of their approach for this exciting project. After much deliberation the panel selected Gross Max Landscape Architects to take the project forward.

Gross Max worked closely with the client to develop the design of the new public space through to implementation and completion. The new square was opened to the public in May 2005. It is a vibrant public space which enhances the area acts as a landmark in Hammersmith. The square is regularly used for many different types of community events.
