The Infrastructure and Projects Authority has launched a call for evidence on its proposals for developing a new platform approach to design for manufacture and assembly (P-DfMA) across five government departments. This followed a commitment by the government in the 2017 Budget to a presumption in favour of offsite construction across the five departments.
The consultation is seeking to understand how prepared the sector is to adapt to this change and support the delivery of this approach.
In its response, the RIBA has called on the government to work with architects to ensure that its approach to developing P-DfMA is not prescriptive but builds in flexibility, facilitates the creativity of designers and supports innovation.
