The RIBA Crest is for use by eligible Chartered Members and Chartered Practices only. Crests may not be used by Affiliate, Graduate or Student members. The RIBA Crest shows the two lions and represents your status as a Chartered Member or Practice. There are two variations of the Crest:
- large, a more detailed version for use large print
- regular, a less detailed version for use in smaller print and online

Notes on the correct use of the RIBA Crest
The RIBA Badge
In May, 1984, the RIBA Council agreed that corporate (chartered) members may use the RIBA badge in the following circumstances :
Private Sector
Where a chartered architect is a principal in an organisation (i.e. a director, partner or sole principal), the badge may be used on stationery and in publicity, provided that the business to which the use relates is one/more of the following :
- consulting architectural services
- development
- contracting (including design and build)
So the crest cannot be used by an organisation where neither partners nor directors are chartered architects.
Public Sector
Chartered members who are chief officers, and their designated deputies, and those members who are the most senior in their authorities and are heads of architectural departments, may use the badge on their stationery (for correspondence, reports, business cards and the like) in conjunction with their name. Neither the department, nor the overall authority, can use the badge indiscriminately simply because a member of staff is a chartered architect.
Educational Sector
Chartered members in teaching positions may use the badge on their personal stationery.
Social use
Chartered members may use the badge on private personal stationery for social purposes (e.g. writing paper bearing private residential addresses).
