Read a summary of views from smaller Practices' undertaken as part of UCL Master's research programme. The document collates opinions on embodied carbon policy, skills, education, training needs and challenges, data access and tools and cultural attitudes.
The views summarised here are representative of those working either as sole practitioners or in smaller practices, and were collected over the course of four virtual workshops held in the summer of 2021. Participants primarily included RIBA Members from across the regions, and discussions focussed on how they consider embodied carbon within their design processes.
The document covers four areas:
- Policy - what smaller practices want to see from regulators and policy influencers
- Skills, education and training - the needs and challenges faced by smaller practices
- Data, access and tools - concerns from smaller practices
- Culture - smaller practices’ attitudes on embodied carbon
High-level signposting via case studies provides an initial response to the key points raised.
It is hoped that the conversations continue so that concerns raised can be addressed and industry knowledge increased.
