The Cheshire Society of Architects invites everyone to an exclusive evening tour of the historic Barnston Estate — a rare opportunity to explore one of Cheshire’s most significant heritage sites.
The visit will happen at Churton Hall Farm, a remarkable 15th-century Grade II listed building and one of the few surviving examples of a former cruck-frame hall house. Ed Barnston, managing owner of the Barnston Estate, will lead the tour, sharing insights into the building’s unique architectural features and its long-standing connection to the Barnston family. The tour will also cover the estate’s recently granted planning permission to convert the farmhouse into residential accommodation, offering a compelling look at the challenges and opportunities involved in preserving heritage buildings while adapting them for modern use.
After the tour, guests are invited to enjoy drinks and nibbles in the beautiful surroundings of the farmstead — a chance to reflect on the visit and connect with fellow attendees in an informal setting.
Arrival is from 5:00pm, with the tour starting promptly at 5:30pm. Parking is available in the courtyard of Churton Hall Farm.
This event offers valuable insight for architects, heritage professionals, and anyone with an interest in historic buildings. Don’t miss the chance to experience a living piece of Cheshire’s architectural story, guided by those who know it best.
