South Conservation Group: Regulatory requirements of listed buildings talk

John Palmer from OWL Building Control Solutions will look at the regulatory requirements of listed buildings and how legislation impacts the decisions made by principal designers.

RIBA South Conservation group welcome you to join the March online talk with guest speaker John Palmer, Technical Director and Registered Building Inspector from Owl Building Control Solutions.

Event Format: The 40 to 45 minute presentation by the guest speaker is followed by a brief opportunity for the audience to ask questions via chat or voice.

About the topic

John will share an overview of the framework for the building regulations, and the role that building control has within the built environment, with further insight relating to the common instances of building works associated with listed buildings, including extensions, material change of use, refurbishments, etc.

The talk will conclude with some of the common conflicting issues that can occur on projects involving listed buildings, and potential mechanisms to avoid these problems from occurring.

About the John Palmer

John has been a Building Control professional for over a decade and is a Class 2 and Class 4 Registered Building Inspector (RBI). John takes the lead for OWL BCS regulatory interpretation and application of relevant legislation. They also provide Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to a wide range of audiences regarding topical issues within the built environment.
